Youth Ministries at Skiatook First United Methodist Church

It is the mission of the United Methodist Church “to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” We do this by reaching out to people and welcoming them into the church, relating to people and helping them deepen their relationship with God, nurture people in Christian living, and supporting people in their ministry.

We incorporate this mission into our youth ministry by reaching out to youth and families without a church home and welcoming them into SFUMC, giving the youth opportunities to deepen their relationship with God, teaching them to be a disciple of Christ, and supporting the youth in their gifts and talents.

We have a variety of options for all ages and opportunities for learning about and living out your faith at SFUMC.

Sunday Mornings

9:30am Sunday School - Sunday School is a big part of spiritual growth for people of all ages. Throughout the year, we will be spending time in both the old and new testaments and learning to apply the scriptures to our lives today.

WEDNESDAY EVEINGS

We meet each Wednesday eveing from 6-8 pm.  We share a meal, have fun,  and participate in a faith-filled lesson that challenges us throughout the week.

Missions & Outreach

The students of SFUMC take missions seriously. Going out and being the hands and feet of Jesus is part of being a Christian. We do a variety of local missions throughout the year, but go out and do work away from home during summer mission trips.

30 Hour Famine

Every day an estimated 7,000 children younger then 5 will die from causes realted to hunger. Some starve. Some get sick and waste away. Either way, this is not okay. So we are doing something about it. We will go 30 hours without food to raise money so that others can eat. This is an annual event.

Summer Mission Trip

Our youth have been to Hico, Texas, San Antoino, Texas, Guymon, Oklahoma, and Atlanta, Georgia. It is a long drive to get there, but well worth it.  We have done all kinds of work, from scrapping and painting, to roofing and carpeting, to building handrails and wall panels. We work hard, but play hard too! It was fun to make new friends and share new experiences together. The families that we did work for were also wonderful.  I think they touched our lives as much as we touched theirs.  Every other year, we participate in Youth Force, an OKUMC mission opportunity, and the alternating year go on an out of state trip, such as UM Army, or MI 25 in Atlanta, where we went in 2018.

Camps

The youth at SFUMC participate in many camps during the summer.  Church camp is a vital part of a teenagers faith journey, and we will do what it takes to make sure any teenager that wants to go to camp, goes.

Concerts

Music is one of the most powerful forces affecting youth culture today. On average, youth consume 7.5 hours of music and media every day. Whenever we have the opportunity, we expose the youth to positive Christian music influences. Winter Jam and St Yootz Day are some of our favs!

Community Youth Events

The community of Skiatook has an amazing network of dedicated youth leaders and students.  Each Monday and Wednesday, we meet in the school with student led devotions.  Several times throughout the year, we have a community youth event. Students from area churches get together to have fun and worship God.  We have had the Annual Back2School Bash, rap concert with Gospel Lee, Fields of Faith event, See You At The Pole, and more.
