Summer lunches at Skiatook Pool

One of our newer missions is the Skiatook Pool Lunch Program.  Last summer, it was noted by the Skiatook pool manager that some children were spending the entire day at the pool, without any money to buy snacks, food, or drinks.  Five churches in Skiatook, including FUMC, banded together to provide lunches at no cost each day to those childlren who spend the day at the pool and have nothing to eat until that evening.  Each church took a different day of the week.

Each Thursday, volunteers gather here in the Old Fellowship Hall to make approximately 50 sack lunches consisting of a sandwich, drink (botttled water or juice), chips, and a treat (cookie or candy).  Those lunches are taken to the pool, where it is announed that anyone who is hungry and wants a lunch may come get one.  Sometimes, there are actually children waiting for us.  Without school lunches being available in the summer, we believe this is a much needed mission for some of our children.
